A study of effect of Ginseng Radix aqua - acupuncture on the adrenal cortical insufficiency in rats

Abstract

|
In order to study the effect of Ginseng Raidx aqua-acupuncture on the acute adrenocortical insufficiency induced by dexamethasone disodium phosphate in rats, animal experiments were carried out. Ginseng Radix solution was regulary administered at the corresponding loci to bilateral Sin-su(BL_(23)) of human body for 3 days to make a comparative study between contents of serum cortisol, glucose, total protein, number of eosinophils and weight of adrenal gland and those of control group.
The obtained results were summarized as follows :
1. The contents of serum cortisol were increased remarkably comparing with those of control group.
2. The contents of glucose were remarkaby increased comparing with those of control goup.
3. The contents of total protein were decreased comparing with those of control group.
4. The contents of number of eosinophils were decreased comparing with those of control group.
5. The weight of adrenal gland was increased comparing with those of control group.
According to the above results, the aqua-acupuncture with Ginseng Radix seems to influence adrenal cortical insufficiency. It is suggeted that aqua-acupuncture with Ginseng Radix could be recommanded for the treatment of disease which is assumed to be related to adrenal cortical insufficiency in oriental medicine.
